Asad Ikemba, M.Ed

ABOUT ME

ASAD IKEMBA has over 10 years of experience in education specializing in early childhood literacy, second language acquisition, cultural studies, and curriculum theory/development. Asad earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from West Virginia State University, a M.Ed specializing in International and Comparative Education from Northcentral University and is a strong advocate for linguistic human rights. He served as a Program Associate at The Literacy Lab, an initiative that places a spiring young black male educators in preschool classrooms as literacy tutors. He is the Director of an award-winning community organization—The Cincinnati Peace Movement, which has been recognized for their literacy initiative—I CAN Literacy, which was funded by United Way of Greater Cincinnati and The City of Cincinnati. Ikemba is a is a current Doctoral Candidate of Educational Leadership Culture, and Curriculum at Miami University (Oxford). His areas of research explores of the intersections between African ʿAjamī Literacy, African American linguistic heritage, and the development of culturally relevant pedagogical and curricula materials that facilitates the preservation, revitalization, and access African language and literacy traditions.
